Background
Saudi shipping and logistics firm Bahri has expanded its offshore fleet through a newbuild agreement signed between its Bahri Logistics unit and Grandweld Shipyard. The deal covers the construction of two offshore service vessels and forms part of a wider push to strengthen the kingdom’s energy logistics corridor.
Built specifically for operations at Ras Tanura Port, among the busiest energy hubs in the world, the vessels will support Bahri’s offshore work at the site. The company claims that they would provide energy and industrial clients with more flexibility and quicker response times while also assisting in maintaining uninterrupted service delivery.
Each vessel will carry modern navigation, communication and safety systems, built to handle the demands of offshore environments while keeping efficiency and reliability high.
Once operational, the vessels will take on a range of offshore duties. These include procedures for clearance with maritime authorities, crew changes, emergency response, and maintenance and technical support for vessels and offshore facilities. Inspection support is also part of their remit, carried out under international maritime and environmental standards.
Eng. Soror Basalom, president of Bahri Integrated Logistics, described the agreement as proof of the company’s ongoing push to grow its offshore presence and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s broader logistics network. Partnering with Grandweld Shipyard, he said, allows Bahri to invest in vessels built around innovation, safety and efficiency, values he linked directly to the company’s support for Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals.
