Background

Dubai Municipality plans to build 35 new parks across the emirate, with AED 348 million set aside for the project. The project exists as a component of the Dubai Parks and Greenery Strategy, which operates under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan to enhance public spaces and increase green space throughout the city.

The new parks cover more than 340,000 square metres and serve 23 residential communities. The officials state that the program establishes social bonds between people while it promotes outdoor activities and enhances community health. The plan helps Dubai create an urban space which prioritizes walking and environmentally friendly development.

The projects follow the Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030, which includes a budget of more than AED4 billion for its extensive investment program. The roadmap plans to establish over 120 parks and 200 sports and recreational facilities during the next five years. The city authorities plan to develop public spaces that offer better accessibility and superior quality throughout the entire city.

Officials highlight that park locations are selected carefully to ensure easy access. Most parks are within a five-minute walking distance from nearby homes. The approach helps encourage residents to include green spaces in their everyday lives and enhances equal access to public facilities.

The planned parks will open to the public without any fencing, which will enable them to connect with surrounding residential areas. The designs contain both climate-friendly elements and long-lasting infrastructure components that will enable sustained operational performance.

Dubai Municipality will create events and activities at these parks to maintain their operational status throughout the entire year for public enjoyment. The plan aims to achieve three goals, which include sustainable development, stronger community ties, and improved daily life in Dubai.
