Background
By the year 2026, the UAE will introduce an electric air taxi service in Dubai that will provide high-speed and eco-friendly travel throughout the city. The service will be based on electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to offer a new and environmentally friendly mode of transportation for people to travel between the most popular locations.
Dubai International Vertiport (DXV), located near Dubai International Airport, will be the first hub. It is designed to serve up to 170,000 passengers each year. The vertiport has two landing pads and can handle up to 10 landings every hour. It will also support helicopters to keep air travel running smoothly.
Air taxis will connect important places such as Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai, and the airport. A trip that now takes about 45 minutes by car will take just 15 to 18 minutes with the air taxi service. This will help reduce travel time and improve the experience for tourists and residents alike.
Additional vertiports are to be introduced in Dubai, particularly in tourist destinations and business hubs. These will assist in the expansion of the network and accessibility of key locations.
The project focuses on sustainability. The eVTOL aircraft are completely electric, which assists in reducing the carbon footprint of the city. This aligns with the Dubai plans of offering cleaner and greener means of transport in the future.
The air taxi service will be part of the Dubai 2026 plan, which will be integrated with speed, comfort, and environmentally friendly technology. It will turn Dubai into one of the pioneer cities in the world to implement the air taxi as a normal mode of travel in the city.
