Background
A major wastewater treatment project in Ras Al Khaimah had Synergy Consulting as its main advisor, showing that private companies are playing a bigger role in building important infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates.
The company served as a financial consultant to the consortium, which included Etihad Water and Electricity, TAQA Water Solutions and Saur International for their Ras Al Khaimah Wastewater Treatment Plant project. The project is the first of the emirate to be developed as a partnership with the public and private sectors.
The facility will cater for about 300,000 users and have a primary processing capacity of about 60,000 cubic meters per day.
This also includes associated infrastructure such as pipelines, pumping stations, and distribution systems for treated water. The private consortium will complete all project requirements by designing the plant, financing its construction, building the facility and running its operations until they hand over property ownership to the government.
Industry reports indicate that this is Ras Al Khaimah’s first large-scale wastewater PPP project, reflecting a broader regional shift toward private investment in water and utility infrastructure.
Synergy’s active project involvement will enhance its ability to deliver advisory services for complex infrastructure contracts in emerging markets. The project helps stakeholders by improving environmental outcomes, supporting sustainable city growth, and increasing the reuse of treated water.
The project emphasises the UAE’s focus on building sustainable infrastructure and creates a system where private companies can work with the government to provide important public services.
