Background

DP World has expanded its GCC road freight business by adding 700 new trucks to transport more cargo efficiently. This purchase aims to improve the efficiency of the company’s logistics services by making the transport of goods in the region easier. With the new fleet size, as many as 35,000 truckloads will be able to be handled per month. The trucks will be used for first-, middle- and last-mile deliveries, and for the transport of both containerised and non-containerised goods.

The investment will boost the speed, reliability and flexibility of freight movement and facilitate the rising demand for trade in the GCC, said DP World. The new vehicle is slowly being introduced and will assist in complementing the company’s current operations that process approximately 3,000 truck movements per day throughout the region.

The trucks fulfill the Euro V emission standards and are extremely fuel-efficient. DP World has also said it will explore using green-energy vehicles in the near future as a means to make logistics more sustainable.

The expansion will be based on several logistics projects the company has undertaken in recent years. The fast-track bonded corridors that connect the east coast gateways to Jebel Ali Port, the setting up of a bonded corridor from Sohar in Oman, and the utilization of overland corridors via the South Container Terminal of Jeddah Islamic Port are some of these projects. They have succeeded in assisting in transporting 350,000 TEUs despite disruption to sea freight operations.

The latest development will be used for further strengthening DP World’s multimodal logistics solutions.
