Background
Bank ABC appointed Abdelkhalig Shaib as Group Chief Legal & Corporate Affairs Officer. This move strengthens the bank’s focus on governance, clear regulations and accountability in its international operations.
In his new role, Shaib will become a member of the Group’s senior management team while continuing to serve as Board Secretary. He will oversee group legal, compliance, communications and marketing, investor relations, sustainability, and the board office. The bank said the move will help ensure coordinated engagement with regulators, shareholders, and other key stakeholders across markets.
The Group confirmed that compliance will maintain its primary reporting line to the Board Compliance Committee. This structure aims to preserve independence and alignment with regulatory requirements.
Brendon Hopkins, Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, said Shaib’s experience and institutional knowledge would provide continuity and strong leadership as the bank advances its long-term strategy. He added that the appointment reflects the depth of leadership talent within the organisation and its commitment to promoting from within.
Shaib said he was honoured to take on expanded responsibilities at a key stage in the Group’s journey. He noted that bringing legal, compliance, communications, investor relations and sustainability under one structure would support stronger governance and clearer stakeholder engagement. He added that the integrated approach would help the Board and management execute strategic goals effectively.
Since 2018, Shaib has worked in senior legal and governance roles at the Group. He handles regulatory matters, guides corporate governance, and manages cross-border financial transactions.
He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Harvard Law School and is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Oxford, class of 2026. He is admitted to practice law in New York and Sudan.
The bank said the leadership change supports its broader efforts to maintain strong oversight and transparent corporate practices across its global footprint.
