Dubai-based real estate developer and investor Sweid & Sweid has announced plans to build a 390,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Virginia for battery technology company Microporous.
The new facility will become the global headquarters of Microporous, a long-established manufacturer of battery separators used in both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries. This project will help boost the company and solidify its status in the expanding battery supply chain market in America.
According to Sweid & Sweid, this project will be their way of venturing into the business of build-to-suit manufacturing, thus expanding from logistics, industrial, and residential development in America.
The company said the facility is designed to meet Microporous’ specific operational requirements and reflects its strategy of developing customised properties that improve efficiency for occupiers. The approach has helped attract multinational companies and major corporations to projects developed by the firm.
Maher Sweid, Managing Partner of Sweid & Sweid, said the project represents another step in the company’s expansion across the US market. He noted that demand for specialised manufacturing facilities continues to grow as businesses seek to increase domestic production capacity.
Construction is scheduled to begin this month and will be carried out by Alston Construction Company, a US-based design-build contractor with experience in manufacturing and industrial developments. The facility will be finished in 2027.
The announcement follows several recent projects completed or underway by Sweid & Sweid in both the UAE and the US. They include a large logistics facility in Atlanta, a residential development in Austin, Texas, and Sweid One, the company’s flagship office project in the Jumeirah Lakes Towers district of Dubai.
